In  2007 we announced our intention to give $1000 to each of 5 non-profit groups that wanted to send supplies to places other than Cuba. Our desire was to stimulate individuals and small groups to do more than they might have thought possible.

I am very proud to announce that this program has been a TREMENDOUS success! Is is a lot of fun to give $1000 away! And it looks like we will exceed our original goal by a wide margin. The containers we are sending around the world, with the help of our many friends, are listed to the left of this page. Please read the stories of each container!

The role of CMT in these international projects is to help locate donated supplies, and support non profit groups who wish to send the supplies with a small grant of $1000. We learned a long time ago that we can't do everything, and often it is more efficient to help other dedicated people who are already doing the work. NO MONEY DONATED TO SEND HELP AROUND THE WORLD WILL BE SPENT ON SALARIES OR PHONE CALLS OR ADMINISTRATIVE EXPENSES OF ANY KIND.

A forty foot container holds up to 20,000 pounds of donated supplies. The value of a container can be half a million dollars, or a million dollars, or more. The value of a container can sometimes be measured in lives. Sometimes even smaller machines can save scores of lives over their lifetime of use. And the value of each life is incalculable.

There is so much work involved in sending each container.

We need to keep in contact with hospitals around the country, to see what could be given away. We need volunteers to drive to the hospitals, load up their pickup trucks, and transport items to a warehouse. Then we need other volunteers to inventory the items, talk to countries throughout the world to see what is needed, do additional fundraising, consolidate donated items here and there until we get a container load. We need people to call trucking companies and arrange for drop offs. Then we need a group of volunteers ready to spend a morning or afternoon carrying boxes from a warehouse or a church basement into a container. And we need thousands of dedicated medical professionals around the world to accept our donations and work with them to help people who need our help.

The amazing thing is that we already have all those people! There are dedicated people who are doing this work, one container of donated supplies at a time. The only thing we need is $1000 at a time, just enough to support our partners around the world who are ready to send a container in your name. So please consider getting together with your Church group or your local Rotary chapter or the tzedaka committee of your synagogue or your social action group or your cancer survival organization or your sewing circle!
